A Federal Government of Nigeria initiative providing sustainable, clean power to 37 federal universities and 7 university teaching hospitals nationwide.
The Energizing Education Programme (EEP) is a Federal Government of Nigeria initiative,
implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), aimed at providing reliable and
sustainable electricity to Federal Universities and its Affiliated Teaching Hospitals through
solar hybrid power plants and rehabilitated distribution infrastructure.
The programme also
includes the installation/renovation of streetlights to enhance security, establishment of a
Renewable Energy Workshop & Training Centres (WTCs) for students to build local capacity, and
the training of 20 female STEM students in the design and construction of renewable energy
technology towards promoting gender inclusion and diversity in the energy sector.
Implemented
in phases,
Phase II (World Bank-funded) includes 7 Universities and 2 Teaching Hospitals,
with commissioning already underway across all institutions.
Phase III (AfDB-funded) covers 8
Federal Universities and 1 Teaching Hospital, with commissioning targeted for Q4 2025.
